Bootie celebrates its 4-Year Anniversary on
Saturday, August 11th – featuring "The A+D Show"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 23, 2007
Club Calendar / Nightlife Picks

In the four years since DJs Adrian and the Mysterious D first launched Bootie in San Francisco the first all-mashup bootleg club in the U.S. and the biggest mashup dance party in the world – the couple have watched their unique party grow from 75 people on a Wednesday night to where it is now, with nearly a thousand people every second Saturday at the DNA Lounge. In that time, they've launched successful sister parties in New York, Los Angeles, and Paris, and have booked nearly all of the best mashup talent from around the globe.

But there are two renowned mashup producers who have still never spun a showcase set at Bootie – themselves. Until now.

On Saturday, August 11th, as Bootie celebrates its 4-Year Anniversary, DJs Adrian and the Mysterious D – known for their mashups under the moniker A Plus D – will present The A+D Show, a multimedia mashup extravaganza.

This will be no mere DJ set. The duo will showcase their own mashups in a stage show which will combine mashup videos, mashup movie shorts, go-go dancers, and several live performances during their set which will include: live singing, drag performance, an audience sing-along, and even a live mashup Guitar Hero showdown, as well as a couple of surprise numbers. There will be something different for every song in their one-hour live on-stage DJ set.

The performances will feature many of the "who's who" in the SF drag scene, such as Raya Light, Fudgie Frottage, Anna Conda, Peggy L'eggs, Trixxie Carr, Steven Satyricon, Starr Munro, Felicia Fellatio, and Carlotta Valdez. The A+D Show will even have it's own theme dancers, The Glitter Hotties, featuring Travis D and The Indra.

Not only are Adrian and the Mysterious D the creators and producers of all the Bootie parties, but they are also widely recognized for their DJ style. They were named "Best Alternaqueer Club Promoters" in the Bay Guardian's Best of the Bay 2004, and have been nominated twice (2004 and 2006) as "Best DJs" in the SF Weekly Music Awards. They've been called "the Susan Lucci of the SF "Best DJ" awards." As DJs in their own right, they've played everything from private parties for the Scissor Sisters to DJing events alongside artists from Lady Sovereign to Nina Hagen to The Killers. They've also spun overseas, with gigs in London, Amsterdam, and Paris.

While The A+D Show promises to be one of the most epic and unique DJ sets club Bootie has ever seen, it wouldn't be an anniversary party without other local DJs who have helped put San Francisco on the map as "the epicenter of the American mashup scene." Also spinning will be resident Bootie DJs Party Ben and Dada, as well as DJ John doing a special set in the main room, and featuring DJs Earworm and Tripp in the upstairs "Remix Room," spinning unofficial remixes and covers all night.

At 11 PM, Bootie house band Smash-Up Derby – the world's only mashup rock band – will take the stage to present "Mashups 101: A Short History of the Modern Bastard Pop Movement." This special seven-song live set will be presented as a sort of "School of Rock: Bootleg Style," as the band traces the chronology of the scene's most landmark mashups, from 2002's seminal "A Stroke of Genie-us" to this year's internet download sensation, "Tricky Sandman."

Finally, to celebrate its 4-Year Anniversary, Bootie will also be giving away – to the first 500 people through the door – a free, 20-track Anniversary CD, featuring mashups from every guest DJ who has played the club over the past year, and containing many of the year's best bootlegs from around the world.
